Hello,
Everyone has an element of creativity within them. The form it takes as it enters the world and the ripples it creates cannot be fully comprehended. Creativity, my friends, is not always sweet, not always light, but the drive to create, that voice, that inner push to overcome inertia and make something happen brings with it potential, possibilities.
My creativity is communicated through the art of photography. Because the scope, subject, even the basic equipment used to create an image allows for such variety, I find endless paths to explore. From film, alternative processing, to digital capture, post-processing and printing, there are so many rabbit holes to fall down. Don’t you agree, Alice?
Having learned the basics of the craft, I work to build on my skills by focusing on one project at a time. I judge my success on the distance between my original vision and intentions and how closely they match the final product.
As you view these galleries, you will find that I enjoy having a story behind the pictures. The photos become illustrations and interpretations of the story. Researching, storyboarding, and staging are as much the act of creativity for me as executing the shots. In telling a story, I want to prod the viewer to claim their own narrative. What one brings to the interaction of artist and viewer is equal in importance to the lines and characters brought forth by the artist. Photography, as an art form, is collaborative. When one creates a scene or captures a subject unaware, whether the photographer is drawn to the beauty of the human form or finds inspiration in the natural lines and curves of nature or the surprise fractals in chaos, all must be available before the artist can make it his own and each viewer, in turn, brings their own history, perspective, and interpretation.
